Childcare Information Checklist

The Hutchinson/Reno County area offers a variety of childcare facilities. Each one is unique and provides great experiences for your child, but before you select one; consider these guidelines:

Caregivers:
  1. Do the caregivers seem to really like the children?
  2. Are the children's needs quickly met even when things get busy?
  3. Will the caregivers tell you what your child is doing every day?
  4. Are caregivers trained and experienced?
  5. Have they participated in early childhood development classes?
Setting:
  1. Is the atmosphere bright and pleasant?
  2. Are there different areas for resting, quiet play and active play?
  3. Ask about their emergency plans for fire and tornado drills?
Activities:
  1. Is there a daily balance of play time, story time, activity time and nap time?
  2. Are toys clean, safe and within reach of the children?
General:
  1. Do you agree with the discipline practices?
  2. Is the program licensed or regulated?
  3. Are surprise visits by parents encouraged?
  4. Will your child be happy there?
