Training Incentive Programs
Kansas Industrial Training (KIT)
The KIT program is designed to help new and expanding companies offset the costs of training workers for new jobs. Training funds can be used to reimburse negotiated costs for pre-employment, on-the-job and classroom training.
Eligibility: Creation of one new job that pays an average wage of at least $9.50 per hour in Kansas non-metro counties including Reno County.
Benefits: Up to 100% training costs. Maximum is $2,000 per employee although typical awards are less than that.
Kansas Industrial Retraining (KIR)
For restructuring companies whose employees are likely to be displaced due to obsolete or inadequate job skills or knowledge. The program will provide assistance for retraining exisiting employees.
Eligibility: Companies restructuring their operations through incorporation of existing technology, development and incorporation of new technology, diversification of production or the development and emplementation of new production activities.
Positions being retraining must be paid a minimum average wage of at least $9.50 per hour in Kansas non-metro counties including Reno County.
Benefits: Dollar-for-dollar match to company training funds. Maximum of $2,000 per employee although typical awards are less than that.
Investments in Major Projects and Comprehensive Training (IMPACT)
The IMPACT program is designed to respond to the training and capital requirements of major business expansions and locations in the state. The IMPACT program has two major components: State of Kansas Investments in Lifelong Learning (SKILL) and Major Project Investment (MPI). SKILL funds may be used for expenses related to training a new or exisitng workforce. MPI funds may be used for other expenses such as the purchase or relocation of equipment, labor recruitment, and/or building costs.
Eligibility: New and expanding basic enterprises that re crating a large number of new jobs at a higher than average wage.
Benefits: Examples of eligible expenses that SKILL funds may be used for:
- Instructors' salaries
- Curriculum planning and development
- Travel expenses
- Materials and supplies
- Training aids
- Minor equipment
- Training facilities.
