The Community Development Division of the Chamber focuses on promoting wellness as a cultural norm for our community by encouraging the development of trails and increase bike and walkability. The following programs and events help sustain these efforts.

Friends of the Trail Fund: The Community Development Division raises money to support our growing trail system throughout the year. Two fundraisers are held to benefit this fund. They are: The Sand Plum Bicycle Classic and the 5K Trail and Treat.

Bike and walkability advocacy: In partnerships with area government agencies, the Community Development Division works to promote a more active and healthy community by improving the ability to bike and walk to desired destinations. In October 2012, the City of Hutchinson adopted a "Complete Streets" policy meaning that all modes of transportation would be considered when building or resurfacing a roadway, or opening a new development.

HEAL (Healthy Eating, Active Living) Reno County: This group is designed to bring a variety of sectors together to focus on environmental and policy changes around healthy eating and active living. The 5 sectors of the group are: schools, worksite, healthcare, the City of Hutchinson at-large, and Reno County at-large.

Wellness Warriors: This free community workout program is held every summer. Any member of the community is invited to participate in these session held once a week in June and July.
